Ivory Plains Expands Substance Use Treatment Services to Iowans

According to the Iowa Department of Public Safety (IDPS), alcohol-related deaths are up 45% compared to the last recorded data from 2019, and there’s been a “160% increase in opioid deaths among those under the age of 25, compared with 2019.” The agency also notes that “rising alcohol-related deaths affect many more Iowans, especially older adults, and a disproportionate number of Iowa youth dying from drug overdoses.”

The solution, IDPS, is multifaceted, including different initiatives for prevention, treatment, and enforcement. Two key aspects include “increase timely access to substance use disorder (SUD) services, and increase employment and quality of life for those in or completing SUD treatment.”

At Ivory Plains Recovery Center in Adair, Iowa, our mission is to improve the lives we touch through tactful, custom treatment to fit each individual who comes through our doors. When you leave, you’ll do so with essential life skills that assist your goals of long-lasting recovery.

Grounded in Values That Guide Every Step

Our commitment to helping you regain health from alcohol use disorder (AUD) or SUD goes beyond basic treatment protocols. Everything we do is driven by six core values: honesty, competence, perseverance, passion, respect, and teamwork. These aren’t just words on a wall—they shape the way we work, the way we treat each other, and the way we support our clients every day.

Our compassionate professionals offer a judgment-free environment where all individuals, including members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, receive the care and support they deserve.

A Proven Framework for Long-Term Recovery

At the heart of Ivory Plains’ approach is the 12-Step model—a time-tested recovery path that emphasizes personal accountability, connection, and spiritual growth as you choose to define it. This philosophy encourages people to reflect, take responsibility, make amends, and support others—forming a strong foundation for lasting change.

These steps are more than theory. They’re a practical tool for navigating life in recovery, supported by peer-led meetings and guided reflection. They’re also adaptable to a wide range of addictions, making them one of the most enduring and flexible recovery models available today.

We complement the 12-Step process with holistic healing strategies, understanding that sustainable recovery involves the mind, body, and spirit. Whether it’s learning how to get better sleep, improve nutrition, manage pain without medication, or form new habits through daily routines, we help you develop a lifestyle that supports your well-being.

What to Expect From Treatment

Understanding what lies ahead eases much of the fear surrounding treatment. Here’s what you can expect from the Ivory Plains experience.

Medically-Supervised Detox

For those who need it, detoxification is the first step to clearing the physical effects of AUD or SUD and beginning recovery with clarity. Our 24/7 medically monitored detox services ensure that your transition is safe and supported every step of the way. For most people, the detoxification process generally lasts 10–15 days and is overseen by experienced doctors and nursing staff. Residential Treatment

Our residential care program typically lasts 30–60 days and offers a structured, supportive environment for adults. This immersive experience focuses on both the immediate challenges of sobriety and the tools needed for long-term success. You’ll participate in:

  • Daily therapeutic groups
  • 12-Step meetings and community-building activities
  • One-on-one counseling sessions
  • Trauma-informed care
  • Family-focused counseling
  • Early recovery skills education

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

For people transitioning out of residential care—or for individuals who need structured treatment but not 24/7 supervision—our PHP option provides flexibility with intensive support. You’ll engage in around 20 hours of weekly programming designed to reinforce recovery goals while preparing for increased independence.

Both residential and PHP programs are accompanied by personalized aftercare and relapse prevention planning, so you’re never left to navigate recovery alone.
